A woman experiencing medical hair loss appreciates options in head coverings! The comfort, convenience, and style offered by scarves, headwraps, and hats make them the perfect choice on those days when an individualized look is desired. It may be tempting to pull a favorite scarf out of the closet or to make a quick run to the nearest department store for a hat with which to cover your head.
There are a few considerations that will make your scarf, headwrap, or hat wearing experience more comfortable and attractive.
Coverage:
A scarf or hat should cover the back of the neck for warmth in cooler climates, and to protect from the sun in warmer climates. Always wear sunscreen for maximum protection against sunburn and skin damage.
Material:
Look for a soft material that will not irritate or scratch against the skin. Cotton is often a good choice for comfort and ease of care, but a softer material such as silk may easily be worn with a cotton sleep cap underneath to keep it from slipping.
Seams:
Look for a scarf, wrap, or hat with few or no seams to rub against the skin and cause irritation.
Volume:
A wrap or hat with some extra volume will give the illusion of hair beneath it if desired.
Climate:
The materials used for the head covering should be appropriate for the climate in which it will be worn. The head should be kept warm, of course, but in a warm climate, the wrap should ideally be in a lighter, cooler fabric.
Fashion:
There are endless ways to wrap and tie a scarf, and many examples and tutorials can easily be found online. Headbands, brooches, and other accessories can also be added for an individualized style statement.

Medical Hair Loss – Eyebrow Options
When thinking about hair loss, you often only think of the hair on top of your head. But if you are in a medical hair loss situation, you become aware that hair thins or falls out all over the body, not just on your head.
This type of hair loss affects those who are going through cancer treatments in addition to those suffering from alopecia or trichotillomania.
There are others who may just need a pair of eyebrows because they went overboard with the tweezers or just do not naturally have full eyebrows.
What are the options for eyebrows?
Some who need eyebrows decide on eyebrow tattoos. Some are permanent like any other tattoo. There are also temporary tattoos available. The trouble with temporary tattoos is consistency from one application to the next.
In addition, neither temporary nor permanent tattoos have the true look of hair since the tattoos are only two-dimensional.
The same is true of eyebrow stencils.
Plastic stencils are available to guide your hand while drawing on the eyebrow. But makeup pencils wear off with time, moisture, or rubbing. What would happen if you used an eyebrow pencil on a hot, sweaty day? Or what if your winter hat smudged your brow?
Why choose wig eyebrows over the other options?
When customers come to Wigful Thinking in preparation for medical hair loss, they are presented with a product that they may have never heard of before. Wig Eyebrows are the best option for thinning or missing eyebrows.
Rosemarie N. was certainly surprised. “Who knew…wig eyebrows!” she said. She was thankful that Caryl had thought of this detail for her customers.
Among the eyebrow options, wig eyebrows look the most natural.
Since they are made with 100% human hair, there is texture and dimension that tattoos or drawings cannot give. Each strand of hair is tied onto a strip of mesh. When the wig eyebrows adhere to the skin, it looks like the hair is growing from your skin.
The wig eyebrows also come in various shades from light blonde to brownish black. There are rounded and angled shapes for women and a thicker version for men.
You may also want to consider eyebrow and lash gel as yet another option for preventing hair loss in that area. Please call Wigful Thinking for more information (609) 249-4811.
